We're Gonna Let Them Shine

My brother hates a number of foods, among them mushrooms, fish, and sweet potatoes (I know?!?! what's wrong with him!?!?)..  and when I had my family over for a little housewarming get-together, what did I make? Why butternut squash soup (with a healthy contribution of sweet potatoes), macadamia-panko tilapia, and mushroom raviolis with a mushroom-vodka sauce, of course. I wasn't intentionally setting out to make an entire meal that he would despise, it just happened that way. The thrilling thing though was that he didn't despise it. Although it was probably not his favorite meal of all time, he ate it and enjoyed it. I always think that's one of the most rewarding things- to be able to make someone reconsider something they thought they knew. Somehow, in the course of dinner, eating grass came up. A survey around the table said that my brother was the only one who had ever eaten grass (he swears it was entirely for experimental purposes) and we debated how many possible kinds of germs were probably in his body as a result. Well, after that conversation, I had to try it.. that's my only explanation for this:

And by the way. It tastes completely horrible.

My actual age notwithstanding, I think my carefree age is about 7.

Royal Purple Dress (Forever21)
Band-Aids On My Fingers (The Sad Result Of Not Being Able To Properly Handle A Knife)

Alice & Olivia Belt (came w/skirt) (Chickdowntown)

Lovely execution of the signature A shot. Just saying.

Brass Multi-Chain Necklace (Macys)
Twig (Mother Nature)

Soda Platform Wedges (Marshalls)
Betsey Johnson Lavender & Pink Socks (Marshalls)

I love these pictures. A can really take them, no? It's the odd expressions that I love. I mean, they're all very me, but it's rare that someone can both bring out those sides of me and manage to capture them.

Song Of The Day: Into The Night - The Music

The band name 'The Music' has to be the worst ever as far as finding music is concerned. So difficult. I wonder if it was intentional. The lyrics of the song do not match the mood of the post, but it's an awesome song.

I Missed The Exit

No matter what, the forces of the universe conspire to make sure that my bagel has been touched by an onion bagel. At least once. There I am, enjoying my awesome blueberry bagel, when, BAM, onion bit. Onion + blueberry = death on a stick.

In other 'death on a stick' news, the book "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" properly translates into English as "The Men Who Hate Women," according to my mother. I am inclined to believe her, since my mother knows, well, everything. Seriously. Ask me a question and I'll have her answer it without using the internet. Want to know what invention holds patent 147,593? Because she can tell you. But the point of this comment is that no one in the US would have bought a book by that title. We just have too much pride in our whole equal rights movement. Also, the book is terribly written. How that minor little fact could be so overlooked by so many people is beyond me.

Summer is officially over. One last pool shot:

And I leave it alone. Not that I actually spent much time in the pool this summer. But it's the thought that counts.

Tricia Fix Black Floral Lace-Up Dress (Possibly Defunct Elle H Boutique)

I got this dress online and I'm not entirely sure what body-type they were envisioning when they made it, but I swear, the straps are made for a woman at least 7 feet tall. But when you twirl, the dress goes, ::whoooosh:: and that's all that I require. Smitten.

When Sea Foam Green Is In Fashion

In an attempt to get in a couple of last summer outfits before fall officially takes over (Sept 22) and I pretend that the weather has an effect on the way I dress, here's... a dress. I'm a complete sucker for the Gypsy 05 brand. I don't even wear sweats and I just stare at theirs and drool a little.

The apartment is coming together in the most marvelous way. I'm down to 'finishing touches' at this point- we're talking book ends, a table runner, making some pillows for the couch... the living area is black, dark brown, white, tan, and pinks. Not little girl pink, sophisticated pink. The couch especially makes me want to take a permanent vacation from work.

Gypsy 05 Teal Cotton Tie-Dye Dress (Ideeli)

Did I mention it has pockets?!?!? Not that that excites me or anything.. but.. pockets!! It's not like I ever use pockets in a dress for anything more than putting my hands in, but.. eee!

Vintage Pin (Women's Bazaar @ OLOL)
Vintage Bracelets (Mom, Aunt Marie)
Pewter Bracelets (Ideeli)

Coming up with a really, 'oh yeah, that's totally summer' song is tough for me at the moment. I'm thinking about going with one that might not scream 'summer' to other people, just makes me think of open windows at night:

And In A Sea Of White Eyes I See One Pair That I Recognize

I have reread the same sentence in the book I'm reading 6 times. I still don't know what it says. I think it's a good sign I should take a break. It's strange to go back and take a class after being out of school for a couple of years. It's disorienting. It's also giving me flashbacks of the summer after Junior year in college- I was taking classes and working then too.. I just wasn't taking as many classes or working as many hours. I like to up my game.

The other day S and I went to Whole Foods only to see that Naked Juice was on sale. When V opened the fridge she just kind of busted out laughing at the 15 bottles we bought. If we had more room, we'd have more bottles. I have been getting my fruit on. If only I had some excuse for the insane amount of sugar I have therefore been consuming.

Although this is rather late, I wanted to post a couple of pictures from the wedding.

It was so beautiful.

Like all the blue and white w/yellow accents? Of course you do, because like everything else touched by the hand of Z, it was planned out months in advance. The cake was awesome. Makes me seriously want to do cake tasting.. pretending that I'm getting married.. yeah. It also reminds me of this: Yay cake!

Everything was just so.. pretty.

Their first dance was adorable. It's one of those times when you say, 'yeah, they're clearly in love'.

And, because where would I be without the fashion part of the post- the shoes! I loved them. Z's sisters were bridesmaids. And these shoes made my inner 5 year-old squeal in delight at the little flowers on the toe.

BCBG Black and Gold Shoes (DSW)
Green Dress (Macys)
Green Lariat Necklace (Gift From Z- thought is was appropriate)

I loved having an excuse to wear a pretty dress. Not that I need an excuse, it just makes me seem more normal.

So Electric With Hair Dyed Black

I love many things, among them heels. Give me your heels.. your tall heels and your little bitty heels, your chunky, clunky heels, and your delicate spiraling towers.. I love me a good pair of heels. Now don't get me wrong- I by no means advocate heels for everyone. In fact, I think it's the rare person who really loves them and should wear them. Besides, if I'm the only one wearing, I get to tower all the more over everyone else.

But sometimes I am slightly shocked by women in heels who look so uncomfortable or teeter so dangerously, they should probably walk around with their own scaffolding and wheel chair to prevent complications. I wear heels just about all the time, yes, but I'm so used to it I forget they're even on, and I've never let a pair of shoes keep me from doing something. I maintain that I could rock climb in stilettos. Or run a race in them.

This all comes up because I saw a woman today who scared me enough that I almost said something to her. I couldn't decide whether to warn her that she was going to break her shoes or her ankle.

The picture (which I snapped with my phone) is not distorted. In fact, if anything, the amount of bend on that heel was worse as she was walking than it appears.

And so I'll mention that I love this video- should have recommended it How To Walk In Stilettos.

My tribute to the awesome heel:

Jeggings w/Ankle Zipper (Burlington Coat Factory)
Valerie Stevens Pink Tank Top (Inherited)
Caslon Blue Striped Top (Nordstrom Rack)
White Flower Necklace (Mustard Seed)

On an only somewhat related note, I checked back on my Rick Owens jacket from a few posts ago and it's gone- someone bought it. I was so sad. I'm a little too scared to check about the bag now.. if that's sold out too I'll just be a very sad panda.
Warning- Song very much NSFW. But.. it's about stilettos!
